A Personal Trainers Opinion on Detox Diets
December 31st 2009 - Envision Personalized Health, A health and fitness experts opinion on Detox Diets: New Years Resolutions are upon us and the diet wars and detox plans begin So maybe you over indulged for the holidays with too much to eat and drink. Combining over indulgence with not enough sleep, stress, flu season, and poor eating habits leaves our immune systems run down and our digestive systems in turmoil, not to mention those few extra unwanted pounds. As a personal trainer and fitness expert of over 20 years, even I sometimes struggle with the over indulgences of holiday festivities. To get myself back on the health and fitness track, I find it important to consult with a qualified nutrition professional. A nutrition professional is the best person to help find a nutrition plan that is just right for me. A well balanced detox leaves me feeling more energetic. With increased energy I feel more motivated to exercise, and am better able to handle my personal training program, Pilate's routine, and I find myself more focused in yoga sessions. As a nutritional professional, Elizabeth Wagner a Registered Dietitian and Certified Clinical Nutritionist has seen her share of clients who have fallen victim to the many diet fads and dangerous extreme detox programs which abound at this time of the year. She feels that a well balanced detox program can be helpful in balancing sugar cravings, blood sugar, weight loss, and reducing inflammation in the body.  Detox programs can be safe and help to get you back on track to healthy eating which will result in a healthier and balanced weight loss. As a health and fitness expert, I can not stress enough the importance of consulting a qualified nutrition professional when considering a detox program. Trying to control over indulgences of calories, sugar, caffeine and alcohol with extreme detoxification aids and diets can be harmful. Avoid master cleanse type detox diets which eliminate foods groups, are very low in calories, and are not well balanced nutritionally, can actually do more harm than good. Detox diets are not for everyone. If you think you might have adrenal fatigue, pregnant or nursing, less than 18 years of age, or are not eliminating daily, a detox would not be a good idea for you. Once you have consulted with a nutritional professional and find you are a good candidate for a detox plan Elizabeth recommends a her 7 day Detox.
