Acupuncture and oriental medicine is a medical healing system originating in China about 5,000 years ago. It is one of the oldest, continuously practiced and ever expanding medicines and is now used as primary care in almost one third of the world’s population. Acupuncture was officially introduced to the United States in 1972 and now is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institute of Health, as an effective treatment for a wide range of conditions. As a holistic medicine, Acupuncture treats each individual as an integrated whole in order to preserve health, to diagnose, treat and prevent illness, and to balance the body. Acupuncture not only alleviates immediate symptoms of disease but strives to heal their root cause.
How does it work?
Acupuncture treats the body through the stimulation of a vast network of electro-conductive points mapped upon the body’s surface. The points are activated by the insertion of very fine needles, heat application (moxibustion), massage or the application of external liniments and poultices. Acupuncture maintains health by balancing and stimulating the free-flow of energy, or ‘Qi’, fluids and nutrients throughout the body. The body is an amazing healing mechanism and usually will recover from illness, however, it is continuously pulled out of balance by a multitude of factors including physical and emotional stress, environmental toxins and extremes, injury, overwork, lack of sleep and poor diet. Acupuncture is a tool that reminds the body what it feels like to be in balance allowing it to continue it’s own amazing work.
Woman’s Health :
Acupuncture for woman's health is an effective and widely used form of treatment for a variety of women health concerns and disorders.
Acupuncture is an effective form of treatment for women of all ages. For young women, just at the beginning of their menstrual cycles, acupuncture and herbal medicine can help to regulate the cycle and relieve uncomfortable symptoms such as cramps and PMS. Our menses do not have to be like an illness every month preventing us from our activities of daily living. Difficult periods at an early age respond very quickly to treatment.
When menstrual disorders have already become chronic, long term care should be used strategically throughout the cycle. This gives the body the time it needs to adjust to a healthy cycle and to learn to regulate itself.
When women reach the age at which they would like to bear children, acupuncture can often help with a variety of issues that lead to infertility. It has also been seen to help with inducing labor. After a child is born, the mother has undergone a plethora of structural, physiological and emotional changes through the pregnancy and birthing process. Acupuncture can help the body to repair, restore and replenish itself after this amazing process.
As women move towards menopause, there are often uncomfortable symptoms that arise, such as night sweats, hot flushing, insomnia and digestive complaints. Acupuncture can help to reduce these symptoms and make this transition more smooth and comfortable.
For women who are already past all stages of their cycles, from menarche to menopause, acupuncture can help to preserve health and longevity, strengthen the immune system, nourish blood, fluids and energy, and enhance overall quality of life.
Community Acupuncture:
Treatment in a group setting is common in ancient cultures. Community acupuncture offers an affordable treatment plan, that can enable patients to receive more frequent treatments. Treatment plans are then more effective, and patients benefit greatly from the synergistic healing effects of group energy.
Patients receive acupuncture treatments in a room set up with chairs or tables. All patients benefit from the combined healing energy and effects.
An initial private intake session is required to obtain patient health information. Each following session, the patient will be asked to fill out a form to identify their primary health concern for treatment that day. This allows the acupuncturist to treat the patients efficiently in a group setting while maintaining their privacy.
